Embention’s Veronte KAI Flight Controller Gets a Tactical-Grade Upgrade at MSPO 2026
A Flight Controller Built for One-Way and Loitering Munitions
At the MSPO 2026 defense exposition, Spanish avionics specialist Embention unveiled the latest iteration of its Veronte KAI flight control computer, engineered specifically to address the rigorous demands of loitering munitions, counter-UAS platforms, and one-way kinetic drones. The upgrade places a heavy emphasis on navigation resilience, dynamic performance, and safety-critical execution, areas where conventional autopilots often fall short in contested environments.
At the core of the Veronte KAI upgrade is a newly upgraded, high-grade tactical inertial measurement unit (IMU) capable of tracking extreme dynamic maneuvers up to 40g and rotational rates of 2,000 degrees per second. To maintain positioning accuracy when GNSS coverage is denied, the platform introduces upgraded embedded AI computer-vision algorithms and high-precision terminal guidance, complemented by an integrated radio-frequency positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) suite.
A Three-Layer PNT Architecture for GNSS-Denied Operations
KAI 2.0 delivers an adaptable three-layer PNT architecture designed to guarantee mission success across contested environments. By offering configurable positioning modules, system integrators can tailor the flight-control architecture to match specific operational demands, feeding alternative PNT sources into the flight-control and guidance system whenever GNSS navigation is unavailable, degraded, or spoofed.
The flight-control layer is engineered for deterministic, safety-critical execution, architected in compliance with the DO-178C software and DO-254 hardware certification standards. The system integrates a high-performance sensor suite featuring the tactical IMU rated for high-dynamic maneuvers, alongside an integrated magnetometer, barometer, and pitot-static sensor for complete air-data sensing and inertial navigation in the absence of GNSS signals.
The vision layer uses a dual-camera architecture, with one camera dedicated to GNSS-denied navigation through visual odometry, terrain map matching, SLAM, and optical flow. During terminal guidance, the second camera serves as a high-precision optical seeker, integrated with AI-driven target acquisition and autonomous optical tracking for accurate lock-on and terminal engagement in heavily jammed operational theaters.
LEO Satellites, Cellular Positioning, and Anti-Jam GNSS
The RF PNT module incorporates Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite navigation references, which Embention says deliver signals up to 1,000 times stronger than traditional GNSS constellations, dramatically improving signal acquisition, anti-jamming resilience, and positioning integrity. Complementing the LEO capability is a high-performance GNSS module fully compatible with CRPA antenna technology for advanced jammer mitigation, plus an integrated 4G/LTE receiver for robust network-based positioning.
For integrators in the rapidly growing one-way and loitering-munitions segment, the Veronte KAI’s modularity is the key selling point. Rather than committing to a single navigation strategy, the platform lets system designers mix inertial, vision, LEO, cellular, and anti-jam GNSS references to match the threat environment of a specific deployment.
The announcement reflects a broader industry trend: as small uncrewed systems move into defense roles previously reserved for larger platforms, the flight controller, once a commodity autopilot board, has become a mission-critical component that determines whether a platform can navigate, guide, and complete its task when the electromagnetic environment turns hostile. Safety-critical certification, redundant positioning sources, and high-dynamic sensor performance are now table stakes for the segment.
The timing of the Veronte KAI upgrade is significant. The one-way and loitering-munition categories have expanded rapidly in recent years, and the market has consolidated around a small number of avionics suppliers capable of delivering certified, jam-resistant flight control. For system integrators, the practical question is increasingly whether an autopilot can be certified, integrated with external seekers and warheads, and configured with a PNT stack that keeps working when the primary navigation signal disappears. The Veronte KAI’s modular, DO-178C/DO-254-compliant design is a direct response to that requirement, and its MSPO debut signals Embention’s intent to compete in the defense segment as a serious avionics supplier.
